Description
The Accountant is an integral part of the Business Office, assisting with managing the general ledger, reconciling general ledger accounts, and recording transactions.
Reporting directly to the Controller, the Accountant’s duties include supporting the year-end audit process and preparation of tax returns, general ledger analysis, transaction processing and review, preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and other special reports as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Audit and Tax Compliance

Assist in preparing for the year-end audit and tax returns, including Form 990 and necessary audit schedules

Stay current with GAAP updates and non-profit accounting standards, ensuring compliance in all financial practices
Financial Reporting and General Ledger Management

Support the Controller in the preparation of monthly internal financial statements

Reconcile general ledger accounts and support cash flow management through regular bank and cash account reconciliations

Prepare, post, and reconcile accounting entries for student billing

Ensure the accurate and timely recording of transactions for various auxiliary services, including the Parents’ Association, Booster Club, One-Stop Shopping, the School Store, concessions for athletics and fine arts, and the Dining Center
Accounting Recording and Reconciliation

Record fixed assets and prepare account reconciliation related to capital assets and construction in progress (CIP)

Assist with tracking restricted gifts, ensuring proper allocation and reporting of all restricted funds according to donor requests and school guidelines

Prepare, post, and ensure accurate coding and approval of expense transactions related to the school’s credit card program
Accounts Payable and Receivable Support

Serve as a backup for the accounts receivable and accounts payable functions, supporting continuity in the department's operations
Professional Development

Participate in educational and professional development opportunities to stay informed about industry standards and best practices
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent is required
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting. Previous non-profit accounting and audit experience are desirable
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products and other computerized accounting and business systems (experience with Blackbaud is a plus)
- The ability to assist with administering various online technologies used in the Office would be an asset
