What are the responsibilities and job description for the On Call Banquet House Attendant position at The Langham Chicago?
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:
To manually set up, break down, and service all meeting rooms according to hotel standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES:
- Break down banquet rooms from previous meetings including removal of china, glass, silver, buffet equipment, AV Equipment, chairs, tables, displays, and dancefloors.
- Clean banquet rooms including vacuuming, dusting ledges, and checking cleanliness of walls and doors. Correct as needed.
- Set banquet rooms per specifications on Banquet Event Orders including placing all specified tables as needed as well as setting pens, pads, mints, glasses, water pitcher set-ups, and breakfast buffets as required.
- Maintain cleanliness and order of all storerooms.
- Lock all function rooms when they are not in use and ensure all lights are turned off.
- Assist service staff as needed.
- Due to the nature of the hospitality business, nights, overnights, and weekend availability are preferred, including some holidays.
- Perform any general cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products as assigned by the supervisor to adhere to health standards.
- Perform other duties as requested or assist with special guest requests.
- Operate hotel freight elevator in prescribed manner to ensure safe and efficient set up of rooms.
- Control noise level of activities involving room sets.
- Ability to understand and translate written specifications and diagrams of rooms to ensure proper placement of tables, stages and other props as requested by clients.
- Report for duty as scheduled by direct supervisor according to operating hours.
- Provide maximum levels of guest service while maintaining Langham Hospitality Group standards.
- Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Activities include standing, reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, handling, grasping, lifting, carrying, seeing, hearing, talking, walking. Considerable repetitive motion of hands and wrists as pertaining to pouring of drinks from bottles and shaking with shakers.
- Requires the ability to lift and carry object weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Standing for 90% of work shift is required.
SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of various types of equipment and set up styles used in the meeting rooms. For example: different table types (round, schoolroom, etc.)
- Ability to understand verbal English sufficient to understand verbal job requests from supervisor and guests.
- Ability to read and write English, sufficient to read Banquet Event Orders and instructions from a supervisor.
- Ability to lift and move multiple tables, chairs and podiums weighing up to 80 Lbs. This position requires considerable physical activity on a continuous basis throughout the shift for room set up and break down.
- Ability to grasp, lift and or carry or otherwise move or push goods on a hand cart/truck weighing up to 200 lbs.
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school or any other combination of education training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
No prior experience required. Prior hospitality experience preferred.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:
CPR Certification and/or First Aid training preferred.
SALARY RANGE:
$20.40 - $25.50/hour
