The Laurel Center is a non-profit organization located in Winchester, VA. Established in 1981, The Laurel Center’s mission is to empower those affected by domestic and sexual violence by providing a comprehensive program of crisis intervention and support services to include a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, an extended stay program, licensed therapy, legal advocacy, educational programming, community outreach, job training and placement.
Position Summary
The Domestic Violence Services Coordinator plays a vital role by providing trauma informed, intensive case management services to clients and their families residing in the emergency shelter. This includes initial program orientation and needs assessment, development of an individual service plan, information and referral crisis intervention and advocacy services.
Essential Tasks
- Perform brief and full intake of new residents to include orientation to services and needs assessment.
- Provide trauma informed intensive case management to shelter residents, working across all departments to coordinate services and provide information and referral to community resources as necessary.
- Develop individual services plans with each client, setting weekly goals and providing tools that empower independence.
- Coordinate educationally based support groups that enhance the life and healthy living skills of clients.
- Provide crisis intervention to hot line callers to include safety planning and referral to other resources.
- Develop a rapport with children entering shelter with their parent; assess their educational, health and emotional needs.
- Maintain accurate and complete records and statistics on all clients and services provided and ensure information is entered into the VADATA system promptly.
- Participate in community events to promote education and awareness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in social work or related human service field.
- Two years’ experience in human service delivery or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- Bilingual a plus.
