The League is seeking a Nurse Manager, Camp Health Services to oversee the operations of our health center for Camping and Therapeutic Recreation programs. This vital role ensures the health and safety of campers and staff while upholding The League's commitment to excellence and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
Health Center Operations:
- Lead daily operations of the health center for all programs, including summer camp, respite weekends, assisted travel, and winter camp.
- Supervise and delegate to health center staff to ensure seamless care delivery.
- Administer medications and delegate medication administration to trained staff.
- Collaborate with the Administrative Coordinator to prepare necessary health paperwork.
Camper & Staff Care:
- Assess campers' health to confirm their ability to safely participate.
- Communicate health concerns promptly to camp directors, parents, and caregivers.
- Ensure all required camper paperwork is accurate and up-to-date, such as medication orders and medical forms.
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Maintain compliance with regulations set by COMAR, the American Camp Association (ACA), and Maryland Board of Nursing.
- Update Health Center Policies and Procedures to reflect best practices in camp nursing.
- Identify health trends and implement strategies to reduce risks.
Training & Leadership:
- Train and orient staff on CPR, First Aid, communicable diseases, and medication delegation.
- Represent The League professionally in community communications and public events.
- Lead the health program’s quality assurance efforts.
Additional Duties:
- Reside onsite during camp sessions.
- Provide on-call support during assisted travel trips.
- Lead health-related trainings and certifications year-round.
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) certification in Maryland (or compact state).
- Delegating RN certification (or ability to complete within 3 months of hire).
- Trainer certification in First Aid/CPR (or ability to complete within 3 months of hire).
- At least one year of direct experience with individuals with disabilities in a healthcare setting.
- Experience in a camp setting preferred.
- Valid driver’s license (preferred with no more than 2 points on record).
Skills & Knowledge:
- Expertise in the Nurse Practice Act and medication administration.
- Familiarity with health needs of special populations and camp safety procedures.
- Strong organizational, communication, and supervisory skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work long hours, respond quickly to emergencies, and ambulate swiftly around camp.
- Capability to stay overnight at camp during programs and adapt to a variety of environments.
Work Schedule
Mid-May – Late August (Summer Camp Season):
- Full-time, onsite (8 AM – 10 PM) with overnight on-call responsibilities.
September – Mid-May (Offseason):
- Respite weekends (~12–15 per year), Winter Camp, and assisted travel trips.
- One office day per week for paperwork, health reviews, and training.
