What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Student Life Coordinator position at The Leffell School?
The Leffell School is a dynamic, K-12 independent Jewish school serving approximately 860 students in Westchester County, 30 minutes north of New York City. We emphasize academic excellence, traditional Jewish learning and values, and a strong sense of community. We seek to provide our students with meaningful learning not only in the classroom but also beyond, through active club life, enriching trips and shabbatonim, and engaging experiential programming on a regular basis.
The Role:
We are looking for a candidate who is excited about partnering collaboratively and creatively with the Rabbi in Residence to build community and oversee student life within our school, and who is prepared for the challenges of developing experiential programming within a formal context.
The High School Student Life Coordinator reports to the High School Rabbi in Residence and also works closely with the Principal, as well as the Grade Level Deans and Associate Head of School. They take a lead role in planning and implementing all aspects of informal and experiential programming in the high school. This individual is tasked with nurturing student life within the school, with particular emphasis on club life, activities block, our Tikkun Olam program and organizing our high school prom/dances, as well as helping the Rabbi in Residence to execute the high school shabbatonim, holiday programming, and day trips. This is an entry-level or early career position.
Skills:
A successful candidate will possess positive energy and the flexibility to focus on multiple projects at a time. They will also be proactive in taking initiative for the benefit of student life in the high school. This colleague will simultaneously build relationships with students and colleagues, and also work extensively behind the scenes to plan for successful experiential programming. This person should possess leadership skills and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications:
A well suited candidate will have previous experience in planning and implementing programming for high school students, as well as strong organizational and interpersonal skills. A strong work ethic, the ability to be detail oriented, and flexibility to accommodate programming on weekends and beyond school hours will be essential. A background in Jewish camping or youth group experience will be extremely helpful.
