Special Education Paraprofessional – Make a Difference Every Day

The Light House, a nonprofit organization in Southeastern Connecticut, is dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities through education and support. We are seeking a Full-Time Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team and work 1:1 with students in our state-approved private special education school.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide 1:1 support to students with disabilities under the guidance of a Special Education Teacher
  • Assist students with academic tasks, behavioral interventions, and personal care
  • Keep students engaged and on task throughout the school day
  • Collect student-specific data to support individualized education plans
  • Implement Physical and Psychological Management Techniques as needed

What We’re Looking For

  • A caring and patient individual who is passionate about working with students
  • Ability to follow individualized education and behavior plans
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to learn and participate in paid training

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required
  • Certifications will be paid for and coordinated by The Light House
  • Valid Connecticut driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Must pass background checks and registry screenings

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, bend, and balance for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Must be able to assist students with mobility needs and personal care
  • Ability to drive multi-passenger vehicles as needed
