Job Title: Group and/or Private Swim Instructor – Seasonal (Summer Only May-
September)
Department: Parks and Recreation Department
Reports To: Aquatics Supervisor
Pay Range: $13.25-$18.50 per hour for Group Lessons; $13.75-$18.75/hour for Private Lessons

Summary:
Responsible for providing exceptional instruction to swimmers of all ages and abilities. Maintain pool deck by cleaning up after each lesson session. Complete swimming evaluations for participants and keep accurate attendance numbers. Instructors may teach Group Swim
Lessons, Aqua Adventure Camp or Private Swim Lessons. The City of Des Peres is an Equal

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, however other duties may be assigned. - Enforces aquatic center safety rules and regulations by monitoring water and deck areas to ensure a safe swimming experience for the public.
- Serves as a swimming instructor to provide guests the opportunity to learn swimming skills and water safety.
- Assists in program registration by accurately evaluating the skill level of participants.
- Interprets policies and procedures to the public on site or by telephone.
- Attends staff meetings and training sessions to enhance job performance.
Education and Experience Preferred
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Bloodborne Pathogens, First Aid, AED and CPR-PR certified or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of swim center rules and regulations
- Knowledge of standard water safety principles.
- Knowledge of first aid principles and practices.
- Considerable skill as a swimmer.
- Ability to teach swimming skills to swimmers of all ages.
- Ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in hot and humid weather.
Work Environment
The indoor environment provides for a safe and healthy work environment that is smoke and drug free. Occasionally, it may be wet and humid, as well as moderately loud. The outdoor work environment may result in exposure to extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold and
humidity. May work near moving mechanical parts, in high and precarious places, around fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals and may be at risk for electrical shock.

Pay: $16.00 - $18.75 per hour
