What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher Assistant, Spec Ed position at The Long Island Whole Child Academy?
We are looking for a 1:1 teacher assistant with experience working with students who are twice exceptional. Duties entail supporting the work of our lead teachers, helping develop materials for our project-based learning model, collecting data on student growth, working with our clinicians to provide cutting-edge supports for each student, patiently working with students to help them overcome anxiety and stress by listening, sometimes reading with, sometimes talking to, sometimes walking with, sometimes exploring in our sensory gym--our 1:1 program accommodates the individual needs of each student in his or her unique way.
Must have patience, creativity, flexibility, team-player attitude, and be willing to learn our unique model. We are looking for someone who has a background in social work, education or psychology. Must be committed to improving the educational quality of life of our students, resilient, punctual, and responsible. Our management style is collaborative, supportive and team-oriented--we expect that from each of our staff as well. Special education experience a must. Our students need understanding and empathy but are highly able to achieve at or above grade level.

Pay: $35,000.00 - $38,000.00 per year
