Reports to: Director of Fine Arts
Primary Responsibilities:
- Carries out all responsibilities associated with teaching the assigned class(es), in order to engage, inspire, and challenge students consistent with Lovett’s mission and Vision for Learning.
- Purposefully designs curriculum, instruction, and assessment in order to reach a diverse community of learners (academically, culturally, racially, religiously, etc.).
- Participates in department, faculty, team, and grade-level meetings as called,
- Is involved in the life of the school outside of the classroom.
- Fulfills additional duties as assigned, including additional responsibilities that may occur on weekends and evenings (e.g., Admission Open House, observations, and interviews).
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field.
- The drive, organization, and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the school community beyond the classroom.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors.
- Minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience preferred.
- Knowledge of age appropriate broad choral and General Music literature.
- Strong collaborative spirit.
- Availability after-school hours for an extracurricular 4th & 5th Grade Chorus class, as well as for production rehearsals.
- Ability to coach and stage the details of choral music.
- Experience coordinating and directing Lower School musical productions.
- Understanding of healthy age-appropriate vocal production.
- Employment of a variety of teaching and assessment techniques.
- A strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employing a growth mindset and participating in ongoing professional development during the school year and summer.
- Desire and ability to develop an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students as individuals.
- Commitment to developing one’s own cultural self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence.
