The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation, Management Services Division, Customer Service Help Desk Unit, is seeking to fill a Configuration Technician (Class Spec – IT/Telecom Support Specialist I) position.
This position serves as the primary expert in troubleshooting software issues for numerous platforms within the Department of Parks and Recreation.
The IT/Telecom Support Specialist I – Configuration Technician will be required to work under general supervision to deliver projects and tasks. They will be responsible for providing first-tier technical support by troubleshooting software, hardware issues while maintaining IT service standards and operational efficiency.
This role serves as the primary specialist in software configuration and troubleshooting, responding to escalated service requests related to registration software and park services through emails/tickets, calls, and in-person interactions. Additionally, the specialist researches, tests, and deploys software updates and new applications while ensuring quality control for IT projects and hardware-related tickets.
They assist with the development of training materials, knowledge base articles, and conduct user training sessions to support new software implementations while assisting with onboarding and ongoing user support.
The role also involves maintaining proper documentation of issues and resolutions within a ticketing system and staying updated on industry trends through professional development, including workshops, publications, and networking
Examples of Important Duties
- Serving as the primary specialist in configuring and troubleshooting software.
- Ensuring proper documentation of issues and resolutions using a ticketing system.
- Providing first-tier support by handling escalated tickets and emails related to registration software and Park Services.
- Researching, testing, and deploying software updates and new applications to ensure system functionality.
- Developing training materials and conducting user training sessions for new software implementations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Management Systems, or any related field.
- One (1) year of experience in information technology support functions.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together when total 3 years.
- Pass Commission medical examination
- Depending upon area of assignment, a valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.

May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office setting and remote sites. Work involves walking, standing, bending, and crouching, and may require carrying equipment and supplies up to 49 pounds. Work must be performed accurately and may require occasional overtime, after-hours, weekend or on-call work.
Maybe subject to various job demands such as a high volume of work and tight deadlines.
