Description
The Public Affairs & Community Engagement Division is hiring a Volunteer Services & Community Partnerships Coordinator.
Under general supervision, performs professional administrative work in the development and coordination of a volunteer services program to facilitate community involvement and enhance services integral to the functioning of the Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County’s divisions.
The incumbent assists in the assessment of organizational needs for departmental and/or county-wide programs specialized volunteer services and community partnership programs participating in designing programs accordingly. They assist in departmental or county-wide program development, implementation, operation, monitoring, and reporting. They work closely with departmental staff, community groups, agencies, residents and volunteer organizations. Work is performed independently, and the incumbent is responsible for planning, designing, and carrying out programs in accordance with general objectives and conjunction with Commission policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Contacts are with individuals or groups within or outside of the organization and involve instructing, advising, planning, or coordinating to achieve desired actions as well as negotiating to obtain agreement on matters.
Examples of Important Duties
Volunteer Engagement
- Engage community partner organization members in volunteering with the Department
- Coordinate Department annual days of service including MLK Day of Service and Make a Difference Day
- Ensure volunteer hours are recorded in Samaritan database
- Generate scheduled reports of volunteer hours
- Volunteer recruitment for Department opportunities, including in collaboration with Department social media team
- Deliver, and update as needed, Funshop: Summer Camp Safety Training for Youth Volunteers
- Support online database including creating online volunteer opportunities, providing volunteer and staff training and technical assistance, and contact with customer services.
Community Education
- Provide information about the Department’s community partnerships to the community
- Produce and publish volunteer newsletter
- Through in-person and other methods, educate community regarding value of volunteering, including student service-learning
Volunteer Appreciation & Recognition
- Plan and coordinate Department volunteer appreciation events/activities
- Prepare volunteer nominations for annual awards and other recognition, including PVSA and GOSV
Department Commitments
- Deliver training for staff regarding volunteer management policies, best practices, and engagement
- Serve as member of Department committees, as assigned
- Provide onsite support of volunteers at Department events/programs/activities
- Resource for staff and community partner organizations

Important Worker Characteristics
- Good knowledge of: (1) volunteer service and community involvement principles and practices; (2) human resources or project management (3) departmental programs*; (4) safety; and (5) Commission organization, functions, policies and procedures*.
- Ability to: (1) lead and train others; (2) make presentations and communicate effectively, orally and in writing; (3) analyze and interpret professional documents, technical procedures and/or government regulations; (4) read and write complex and technical reports; and (5) ability to organize and prioritize work effectively and manage competing demands while working with others.
- Skill in operation of: (1) office equipment, including personal computer with applicable software and (2) motor vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Public Relations, Communications, Natural Sciences, Recreation, Park Administration or any related field.
- One (1) year of experience in program administration, project management or volunteer management.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total five (5) years.
- Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of their position.

Class Specification: Administrative Specialist II - 1135
May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.
Working Conditions: Works in office setting; may work outdoors on an incidental basis and exposure to inclement weather. May need to work evenings and weekends on an incidental basis. Work is primarily sedentary and requires light physical effort; and may need to wear personal protective equipment when working outdoors. May be subject to various job demands such as high volume of work and tight deadlines. Incumbents may be required to travel to other offices.
