The M-NCPPC Archaeology Office is seeking a part-time intermittent Archaeology Outreach and Education Specialist. The successful candidate will oversee, create, and work with diverse populations through outreach and education. Having an energetic personality and being detailed oriented is necessary for every aspect of the position.


The Archaeology Office is a county-wide unit responsible for preserving, studying, and interpreting the archaeological resources of Prince George’s County within M-NCPPC property. The office exists to inspire stewardship of our cultural resources by providing unique opportunities to experience a tangible connection to our shared past through the science of archaeology.


The successful candidate will be expected to uphold the M-NCPPC’s Natural and Historic Resources Division’s (NHRD) four strategic pillars:

Pillar 3: Strengthen Inclusivity, Diversity and Belonging

  • Community building and engagement through archaeology.

  • Create and implement archaeology/cultural resources education for audiences of all ages and abilities both on and off M-NCPPC property (i.e. Echoes of the Enslaved, Community Archaeology Project, in-school programming, archaeology hikes or kayaks).

  • Manage the Archaeology Office volunteer program.

  • Develop relationships with Prince George’s County Public Schools and local colleges/universities.

  • Supervise programming staff, interns, and volunteers.

  • Develop and implement volunteer and student training in field methods and collection procedures through collaboration with the collections specialist and field technicians.

  • Marketing support includes writing social media posts, volunteer recruitment, program advertising, listserv maintenance, and basic graphic design.

  • Provide support for ongoing Archaeology Office initiatives, including community outreach, fieldwork, lab work, and administrative help.

  • Develop collaborative relationships within the Department, government, and community groups.

  • Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field and have a keen interest in local history, collections management, and community archaeology; or a Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of relevant professional experience.

  • Candidates must have excellent communication skills, the ability to work with a diverse public, and be comfortable and effective working independently.

  • Experience working or volunteering at a museum or historic house is a plus.

  • Experience with archaeological collections and fieldwork; familiarity with material culture of the Middle Atlantic.

  • Experience with database management is a plus, but familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite is vital.

  • Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings for occasional off-site programs.

  • Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and able to lift 40lbs of equipment.
