Storm Water Management contains over 56 Bioretention Areas, seven (7) Dams, over 67 Dry Ponds, 81 Trenches, and 41 wet ponds. The department works diligently to facilitate the reduction in volume and intensity of water that rushes into the stream during a storm event by providing an area of short-term storage of stormwater. The selected candidate will be responsible for the supervision of a crew and the maintenance of given parks/park areas to ensure that areas are safe, clean and provide passive and active recreation opportunities for patrons to enjoy.

- Leads and directs a crew of career and seasonal park maintenance workers in all aspects of general park maintenance.
- Plans, schedules, assigns work and monitors work while providing technical assistance to resolve problems.
- Participates in employee evaluations and counseling.
- Leads and directs crews in the maintenance of bioretention assets, ponds, trenches, dams, and swales.
- Oversees dams and embankments mowing following MDE/DEP guidelines, as well as the inspection of bioretention structures.
- Leads planting, pruning, and mulching projects.
- Cleans sand filters and infiltration trenches of debris, vegetation, and/or sediment.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations and work with a team in the field to restore bioretention and park services.
- Must possess a CDL License and a Maryland Pesticide Applicator certification within a year from the hire date.
- Mixes and sprays chemicals to treat plant and turf diseases or eliminate pests and weeds.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with a Parks Department or other large, complex government organization preferred.
- Advanced ArcGIS skills and proficiency in MS Office, enterprise software, and specialized software.
- Knowledge of local, State and Federal laws and policies.
- Maryland Pesticide Applicator's certification a plus.
- Ability to communicate in another language a plus.
- Knowledge of stormwater management practices a plus.
- Knowledge of native plants a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Incumbent primarily works outside with a combination of office work occasionally or as assigned.
- Position requires a combination of field and office work. Work conditions may include exposure to various elements and adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 100 pounds and regularly up to 50 pounds.
- An essential employee for on-call 24 hours for emergencies. Must be available to work weekends and evenings as necessary.
- High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in ground maintenance, golf course maintenance, building maintenance or park maintenance.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total five (5) years.
- Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
- Pass Commission medical examination.
- Depending upon an assignment, positions in this class may require within 12 months of hire (a) Commercial driver’s license with appropriate endorsements; (b) obtainment of certifications including:
- Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Pesticide Applicator certification in the categories appropriate to the work assignment;
- Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Professional Fertilizer Applicator certification; and
- National Playground Safety Institute certification.
