Job Description
The Meadowbrook School of Weston seeks a skilled Controller to join our faculty. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining the school's financial records with accuracy.
A strong Controller will thrive at balancing technical accounting tasks with strategically designing processes that create operational excellence. Experience implementing new accounting systems is beneficial.
This role requires collaboration across all departments and effective management of day-to-day operations, including supervision of the Staff Accountant.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain accurate financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Coordinate the annual financial and 403(b) audits, preparation of reports and reconciliations, drafting financial statements, and assisting auditors as needed
- Prepare monthly financial statements with budget/forecast variance analysis, cash flow analysis, investments accounting and analysis, fundraising accounting and analysis, and other financial statistical reporting
- Ensure provision of timely and accurate monthly budgetary/forecast information to leadership team and departmental heads; perform analytical review procedures and audit individual department budget/forecast performance
- Supervise and assist Staff Accountant with student billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and purchasing as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
- CPA license and/or advanced degree preferred
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience with demonstrated track record of progressive responsibility including supervising a team
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
- Non-profit accounting experience preferred; private education experience a plus
