What are the responsibilities and job description for the Media Specialist position at The Media Lab?
The Media Lab is a progressive film and media program that teaches valuable life skills to adults with mild developmental disabilities, through the art of film. The Media Specialist is responsible for teaching a small group of students, in the studio or online, the basics of film, television, and broadcast tv.
Everyday is planned out in advance and communicated weekly. Being a Media Specialists is a team based job where you not only work with the students but also with your fellow Media Specialists and the Studio Manager. Everyday is a little different and fun and you see the positive changes in our students as they grow and learn in the program.
Responsibilities
The Media Specialist writes daily notes, tracks progress of students' individual goals, and supports students on a day-to-day basis. They help teach video equipment, help lead groups through productions and with each day a little bit different then the last, they must be flexible with changes.
You must be comfortable working with people, with video production, pre-production, editing and able to teach. You don't need any teaching credential but having worked with kids or people with developmental disabilities like autism is a plus.
Skills & Qualifications
- Proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro
- Basic Video Production Knowledge (lighting, manual camera control, audio, etc)
- Knowledge is script formatting and storyboarding
- Can teach in different ways to help students learn
- Experience with children or people with disabilities is a plus
- Ability to listen and lead a group
- Patient and compassionate
- Comfortable in zoom
- Good with office applications like Google Docs or Google Excel
- Team Player
- Flexible with change
