What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Services Specialist position at The Memphis Theological Seminary?
Full-Time Salary: $35,000 - $40,000
Skills Needed:
• Superior customer service and communication skills.
• This position requires someone with computer and database management experience, budgeting skills,
people skills, an understanding of the Christian ministry, and experience with the process of graduate
level student services.
Essential Duties:
• Coordinate the general care of students, including their spiritual and emotional well-being.
• Provide referrals to students for experienced spiritual directors.
• Coordinate student counseling and pastoral care services, in coordination with faculty.
• Serve as liaison between students and local churches seeking pulpit supply.
• Coordinate the student placement program for the purpose of matching students desiring work with
prospective employers.
• Assist graduating students in securing permanent job placement.
• Provide opportunities for career counseling.
• Coordinate programs designed to assist students develop and improve writing skills, focusing on
research, documentation, and composition.
• Administer and interpret Profiles of Ministry assessments.
• Administer and interpret the Entering and Exiting Student Questionnaire.
• Communicate with church judicatories concerning student when appropriate.
• Maintain files, mailing lists, and other office operations.
• Provide disability support services.
• Provide Leadership to Student Senate and its Officers.
• Promote Voter registration, Student Government, Constitution Day activities, fellowship meals,
community worship, Women in Ministry, and African American History celebration.
• Support substance abuse prevention, in conjunction with Facilities and Safety Department.
• Provide services to International Student, including DSO responsibilities.
• Coordinate grievance procedures.
• Maintain all student records relating to both academic and non-academic student misconduct.
• Serve on Scholarship Committee.
• Encourage Diversity initiatives.
• Give leadership to student retention and success.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
• Seminary degree, experience in Student Services in Higher Education
Physical Demands:
• Normal office environment including sitting and/or standing for prolonged periods of time.
• Duties may require intermittent light physical effort in carrying, lifting, or moving lightweight materials or
equipment (up to 20 pounds) for occasional evening and weekend events.
