JOB SUMMARY:  In this role, you will help sustain Mennel’s tradition of excellence established in 1886 as well as support our food safety programs and mission to reliably deliver superior quality, uniformity, and service. The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of effective EHS strategies, programs and initiatives across all Mennel locations to comply with all applicable regulations and standards, including those from OSHA, EPA, DOT, FMCSA NFPA, IFC as well as other state, local, and corporate requirements. 

 

PRIMARY WORK SHIFT: Monday through Friday 8AM-5PM.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow all food and personal safety rules and regulations in respect to GMP’s, OSHA, HACCP, the Global Food Safety Initiative, the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act as stated in the FS&Q Statement, and sanitation guidelines as set forth by the company as listed in Corporate Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) and attend all required training sessions. Maintain the department/facility in an everyday audit ready condition.
  • Operate as a key member of the corporate management team
  • Initiate policies plans and programs as necessary to achieve excellence in the area of EHS management
  • Direct EHS audits and risk analyses for all locations and work with plant management to identify, correct, and abate recognized safety hazards, behaviors, non-compliant programs and procedures and other loss exposures
  • Develop, review and/or revise written EHS plans and programs
  • Collaborate with location managers in order to achieve compliance with the applicable regulatory agencies, their requirements/standards and to successfully implement necessary programs/initiatives to achieve this compliance
  • Assist location managers with incident investigations to identify root causes and apply appropriate correction actions
  • Assist location managers with the development and implementation of a comprehensive training program that achieves regulatory compliance and meets the goals of the organization
  • Prepare and submit required reports and/or response to regulatory agencies as needed
  • Be a member of various project teams to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards and requirements
  • Manages the company’s efforts in achieving compliance with applicable laws, regulations and company policies and report to corporate management. Collaborate with operations to set and measure appropriate EHS goals and objectives. 
  • Other duties may be assigned. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will supervise all EHS staff.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:   

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job

 

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline required
  • 6-10 years of progressive supervisory experience in a food/beverage or consumer goods manufacturing environment is preferred
  • OSHA certified or other similar safety-related theory discipline
  • Demonstrated expertise in EHS standards, policies, and procedures
  • Must possess excellent leadership skills
  • Excellent technical writing, speaking and presentation skills
  • Must have solid communication skills and can interact and productively communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Must have a working knowledge of the basic principles of food safety and sanitation, good manufacturing practices, industrial hygiene practices, proper chemical handling methods, electrical safety, industrial maintenance processes and fire prevention techniques
  • Must be self-starter and have the ability to work independently
  • Must use common sense and solid judgment when making decisions
  • Must have ability to quickly recognize hazards and areas for improvement
  • Ability to travel up to 25% - 50% 

   

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, procedures, and plans. Ability to write, complete checklists and other basic documentation and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information or data in one-on-one and small group situations to co-workers, supervisors, and managers.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Must use solid judgment when making decisions. Must have ability to quickly recognize and plan for changing work duties and events.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to perform maintenance tasks, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to conditions that are typical to a fast- paced manufacturing environment, including: moving equipment and machinery, dusty, hot/humid, and cold conditions; employee must be willing to work in all weather conditions, at heights, and in the presence of airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment usually requires the use of hearing protection. Work involves exposure to common wheat allergens.
