What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Assessment Specialist position at The Menninger Clinic?
Shift/Schedule: M-F, Ability to work 8-hour shifts between 8am - 8pm, will include some weekends and evenings

Key Functions
- Conducts initial telephone screening of potential patents/clients to determine appropriate placement in various programs. Provides information to clients and families in order to help them decide about treatment, prepare for admission, and what they can expect to encounter. Effectively answers questions about all treatment programs. Ensures patients/clients meet program criteria.
- Arranges for obtaining outside medical records in a timely, efficient manner
- Alerts clinical and other staff to any special problems that might affect treatment
Perform admissions functions
- Completes admission process efficiently and accurately, reviewing documents with the client so he / she is aware of rights and responsibilities and the nature of the various consents and releases that are being signed.
- Meets with patients on admission to conduct initial assessment
- Prioritizes patient/client needs related to patient/client orientation
Perform financial functions
- Assess financial viability for admission
- Understand and utilize insurance language and be able to interpret benefit information with detailed documentation
- Collect finances bi-weekly or as needed
- Work cooperatively with the UM department and Finance department
Perform technical functions
- Proficient in Cerner, TIER, and Who’s On
- Able to use office equipment
- Able to type while talking

- Protects the confidentiality of patients/clients
- Protect the privacy of all client information in accordance with the company’s privacy policies, procedures and practices, as required by federal and state law, and in accordance with general principle of professionalism as a health care provider. Failure to comply with the company’s policies and procedures on client privacy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment
- May access protected health information (PHI) and other patent information only to the extent that is necessary to complete your job duties. The incumbent may only share such information with those who have a need to know specific client information you have in your possession to complete their job responsibilities related to treatment, payment or other operations.
- Participate in team work
- Represents the program to referral sources, potential clients, and other outside individuals and agencies in a courteous, professional manner that reflects positively on the program and its staff
- Accept delegated assignments
- Be the liaison between Admissions and all of the Menninger programs
- Be an active participant in team meetings
- Willing to adjust work schedule and/or hours to meet business needs
Perform other duties when needed
Education: Preferred:
Master’s Degree from an accredited program in the behavioral healthcare field-or- an RN with a BSN
Required
License/Certification: LMSW, LCSW, RN, LPC or LCSW.
Experience:
Required: Minimum 4 year direct patient care experience in a behavioral health setting
Related admissions experience
Preferred: Cerner or experience with electronic charts.
