What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at The Mentholatum Company?
BASIC PURPOSE
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for reviewing, and maintaining the financial records for the Mentholatum Company, a global manufacturing and sales company. This includes overseeing accounts payable, preparing financial reports, monthly journal entries, account ledger analysis, assisting in global consolidation and tax processes and be the primary back up for various Finance roles as necessary. The role also involves collaborating with other departments to analyze financial data, optimize internal controls, and support decision-making.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities:
1.) Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Ensure that financial records and reports comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulatory standards.
- Assist in preparing financial reports for management, including budgeting and forecasting.
2.) Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Maintain and enforce internal control procedures to safeguard company assets.
- Perform regular reconciliations of Balance Sheet Accounts.
- Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations and assist with audits.
3.) Accounts Payable
- Assist with the accounts payable function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and collections.
- Work with suppliers, customers, and internal teams to resolve any issues related to payments or invoicing discrepancies.
4.) Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts for manufacturing operations.
- Track and analyze variances between actual results and budgeted figures, providing recommendations to management on areas for improvement.
5.) Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with other departments, such as operations, sales, and procurement, to gather data and ensure accurate accounting of manufacturing costs and revenues.
- Provide financial analysis to support key business decisions, such as pricing strategies and investment projects.
6.) Audit Support:
- Assist in both internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and resolving any audit findings.
7.) Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of accounting functions.
8.) Tax Compliance:
- Assist CFO with filing of annual Federal and multi-state tax returns in coordination with 3rd party accounting firm service provider.
- Assist in filing state sales tax returns.
9.) Consolidations:
- Assist in coordinating corporate consolidation activities of 25 subsidiaries.
QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER INFORMATION
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
- CPA preferred
- 5-7 years of public/manufacturing industry accounting experience.
- Strong communication (both written and verbal) and analytical skills.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Familiarity with various accounting applications and systems implementation desired. Experience with Cognos, Microsoft Dynamics F&O.
- Must be detail oriented, organized, and capable of prioritizing workload to complete multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to $95,000.00 per year
