Summary
As a Team Leader at The Methodist Home for Children and Youth, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our team to deliver exceptional support services to youth and their families. This position is vital in ensuring the effective implementation of our programs while fostering a collaborative and nurturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establishes and maintains an environment that promotes the safety of the residents
- Maintains physical aspects of the living unit by requesting repairs in timely fashion.
- Communicates with outside agencies such as DFCS, CASA, School, etc.
- Debrief residents after major incidents.
- Oversees the management of the structure in the cottage to include transportation, medication management, etc.
- Ensures that the cottage has adequate resources such as groceries, medication, staff, etc. Oversees the effective use of the resources allocated to the cottage.
- Ensures the effective communication between cottage staff and ancillary departments such as Health Services, Training, etc.
- Effectively manages the cottage team to include ensuring adequate cottage staffing; establishes and coordination of work schedules; selection, orientation and training of new staff as well as manages the training needs of existing staff members.
- Provides effective and ongoing supervision of staff to include regular evaluation of job performance, debriefing after critical incidents.
- Effectively participates in the on call professional rotation.

Qualifications
- Proven experience in team management or leadership roles within social services or related fields.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
- Experience in employee orientation or training is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of best practices in youth development and family support services is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrates and understands the sanctuary commitments.
- Demonstrates a commitment to democracy and therefore actively participating in team decisions.
- Employee practices social responsibility by ensuring that they are at their work area when scheduled and remain for duration of required hours in order to perform responsibilities.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License with minimum of four-year driving history and the ability to meet and remain in good standing in accordance with Agency insurance guidelines.
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a Human Service field; minimum- High School Diploma.
- Minimum of two years supervisory experience.
- Minimum of two years' experience in childcare.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must have proficient computer knowledge.
- High level of energy required for working with people.
· Necessary stamina and temperament to work with children and youth (ages 6-18) who are experiencing crisis and/or emotional and/or behavior disorders.
· Ability to interface and build relationships with children, their families and a variety of service providers and collaterals.
· Knowledge of childcare practices, developmental issues, and group processes and practices which are important to this position.
- Knowledge and demonstrated skills related to theory and practices for emotionally disturbed children.
- Ability to meet and handle the public with tact and poise.

Essential Physical Requirements
- Receive satisfactory results for a pre-employment physical, ten panel drug screen and TB test.
- Duties are performed in a variety of environments ranging from highly stressful and potentially aggressive (physical interventions, escorts, etc.) to casual and leisurely.
- Duties are performed in a variety of environments in both indoor and outdoor settings that can include a wide range of conditions such as high/low temperatures and other inclement weather conditions.
- Ability to successfully complete the Crisis Aggression Limitation Management training program and conduct physical interventions as taught by the instructor. Examples (1) Escorting a child by the arm to de-escalate; (2) Support a child’s movement to a seated position to the floor or to a chair; (3) Support a child in a physical intervention to the floor, on your knees and for lengthy periods of time; (4) Ability to securely and safely maintain a child in a physical intervention for extended periods of time.
- Necessary stamina to maintain supervision of children who are attempting to run away. This may include fast walking for extended periods of time and/or the use physical interventions to escort/return child to campus
- Ability to lift/carry 15 pounds.
- Ability to assist/support/transport youth ranging in weight from 50 to 150 pounds.
- Overall necessary stamina and temperament to work with children and youth (ages 6-18) who are experiencing crisis and/or emotional and/or behavior disorders.
- Duties may include bending, stooping or kneeling for various durations of time.
- Duties may occasionally include overhead work, reaching, pulling and pushing items.
- Specific vision abilities include the ability to see for purposes of reading printed material as well as distance vision for purposes of maintaining appropriate supervision.
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
- Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.
- Duties include frequent driving utilizing a 15-passenger van.
- Duties may include repetitive hand motions such as typing.
- Shifts may rotate between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, Sunday through Saturday.
- Must be prepared to actively participate in a wide range of activities including but not limited to basketball, swimming, fishing, volleyball, movies, staffing, team meetings, etc.
- Responsibilities include times where program manager is on call.
