Job Title: Data Migration Specialist

Job Summary:
Our company is seeking a Data Migration Specialist to join our client's team. The Data Migration Specialist will play a critical role in the modernization initiative of DBHDS, working under the direction of the Data Architect and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The specialist will be responsible for the successful transformation and migration of data from legacy systems into the target data warehouse, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and compliance.
Job Responsibilities:
- Transform and load data into the respective data warehouse for a modernization initiative.
- Transform data to meet target system requirements.
- Translate functional requirements into technical specifications for ETL development.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data migration issues.
- Validate and analyze data sets to ensure data consistency and internal requirements are met.
- Analyze DBHDS legacy data, data quality rules, business rules, and data dictionaries.
- Prepare and execute data cleansing services.
- Specify and document data migration requirements with clients and internal teams.
- Articulate how legacy data will be cleansed and adapted to fit into the new solution.
- Assist with the selection of approaches, methods, and services as required.
- Attend project stand-ups and stakeholder meetings.
- Champion standards and the implementation process defined with the team.
- Collaborate with data architects to design data migration solutions.
- Collaborate with the IMS Business customers and the DBHDS EDW Team to ensure efficient data management.
- Complete assigned tasks in an organized manner to meet project deadlines.
- Develop and execute data migration processes and procedures, including scripts and programs.
- Develop and execute test plans to ensure client requirements are met.
- Contribute to the release and cutover strategy.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to gather requirements and perform system assessments.
- Create and maintain utilities and SQL scripts to accelerate processes.
- Ensure compliance with agency data security and privacy policies.
- Implement new mapping and ETL scripts.
- Lead data cleaning and deduplication efforts to ensure accurate and complete data.
- Ensure migration documentation is created and maintained for post-implementation support.
- Monitor data migration progress and build dashboards to support audit, reconciliation, and verification.
- Perform regular backups to ensure data preservation.
- Propose data migration and reconciliation strategies.
- Represent DBHDS IT and the data cleansing/migration initiative in meetings with internal and external partners.
- Validate post-migration results and communicate outcomes to key stakeholders.
- Write validation scripts for staging tables to report invalid data.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Strong experience in data migration and transformation processes.
- Proficiency in ETL tools and SQL scripting.
- Knowledge of data warehouse design and data modeling principles.
- Familiarity with data quality and data governance standards.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Experience in working with large datasets and complex systems.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Required Experience:
- 5 years of experience in data migration or related fields.
Licenses or Certificates:
- Possess a valid Driver’s License (If not licensed in VA, be able to acquire a Virginia Driver’s License within 60 days after the date of hire)
