Department Summary :

MITRE’s Data Science department is looking for qualified applicants to bring their machine learning, advanced analytics, and applied research skills to bear on solving problems of critical national importance. MITRE’s diverse work program provides opportunities to apply your expertise and creative thinking in challenging domains such as healthcare, transportation, and national security. Employees may also participate in MITRE’s internal research and development program, which provides funding for innovative applied research that addresses our sponsors’ hardest problems.

Roles & Responsibilities :

The successful candidate for this position is an early career data scientist who combines a solid theoretical and technical background with the ability to formulate problems, develop and evaluate solutions, and communicate results. Familiarity with advanced data science techniques and methods (e.g., supervised and unsupervised machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, LLM) is a plus. Hands-on software development skills are a must. The successful candidate for this position is a data scientist who is familiar with machine learning techniques (e.g., supervised, and unsupervised machine learning), data visualization, and statistical analysis and has hands-on data science skills in addition to being a lifelong learner keeping up with the latest research and technologies in this field.

Apply a variety of data science techniques to tackle customer challenges to include machine learning, statistical models, predictive analytics, optimization, risk analysis, and data visualization

Apply data science rigor throughout the machine learning lifecycle to ensure reproducibility and trustworthiness.

Basic Qualifications :

Requires less than 1 year of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent combination of related education and work experience

Hands on proficiency using data science techniques, including machine learning, deep learning, or reinforcement learning

Must be a US Citizen eligible to obtain a US Government Security Clearance

This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications :

Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or related field

Experience applying deep learning techniques

Experience with LLMs

Possess an active US Government Security Clearance
