Job Description:
The Music Shoppe is looking for highly motivated individuals to help our business grow. Founded in 1961, The Music Shoppe serves the needs of Bloomington-Normal's music community. Currently, we have three locations in Normal, Champaign, and Springfield, and our community stretches from north of I-80 to south of I-70.
The heart of our business is band & orchestra; The Music Shoppe works with over 400 schools across Illinois each week. We also carry guitars, drums, sound equipment, digital pianos, print music, and more. Additionally, we have the area's largest repair department and lesson studios. As Central Illinois' oldest and largest music retailer, we truly are a one-stop shop for any musician.
The Music Shoppe has become the area's first choice for all-things-music due to our exceptional staff. As we look to expand upon the quality of our service, we are seeking talented, self-motivated individuals.
Position Title: Sales Associate
Location: Springfield
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide a premium customer service experience for every customer encounter
- Develop customer relationships and loyalty through knowledgeable sales presentations
- Maintain product knowledge through online and in-store training sessions
- Guide families through our instrument rental programs, from explaining the features to filling out the paperwork.
- Must be able to play at least one musical instrument to a reasonable standard in order to demo products.
- Opening and closing store, counting down registers and maintaining a clean showroom
- Maintain product displays by restocking, cleaning, organizing, and performing routine upkeep on instruments.
- Respond to customer inquiries via phone, text, and email in a timely manner.
- Occasionally lift & move products and packages weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Additional duties as assigned
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Required: Minimum of 2 years formal education in instrumental music or performance.
- Required: Basic computer skills, including email and word processing.
- Preferred: Minimum of 2 years experience in sales or customer service.
- Preferred: Degree in music or equivalent professional experience.
- Preferred: Proficiency with any or all of the following software: AIM Point of Sale, Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and Podium.
Qualities in a Successful Candidate:
- A broad understanding of music and musical instruments.
- The ability to work flexibly as part of a team or independently.
- Well organized and a self-starter.
- A sincere desire to help customers and comfortably interact with them.
- The ability to communicate accurately and listen effectively. Must be able to listen and speak clearly on the telephone.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs. on a regular basis
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
Hours:
- Saturday - 10:00 am - 5:00pm
- (4) Days during the week, 10:00 am - 7:00 pm
- Tuesdays off
Pay Range:
- $16-17 an hour based on experience, plus commission
