This is a part-time, as-needed position. The ideal candidate has flexibility and availability to work with short notice in the event that a full-time teacher schedules time off or calls out.
A Nature-Based Preschool Substitute Teacher fills in as needed to assist in delivering a pre-established curriculum in an outdoor learning environment for infants and young children (ages 0-5). This role involves assisting with hands-on, nature-based activities that promote exploration, discovery, and a connection to the natural world. The Teacher will help nurture children's curiosity, support their development, and foster a love for nature.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Support:
- Assist the Lead Teacher in delivering lessons and activities based on the school’s pre-established nature-based curriculum.
- Help facilitate environmental education, sensory exploration, and outdoor play as outlined in the curriculum.
- Assist in utilizing natural materials and outdoor spaces to enhance learning experiences.
Classroom Management:
- Support the Lead Teacher in supervising and ensuring the safety of infants and young children in various outdoor settings.
- Help establish and maintain clear rules and expectations for behavior.
- Promote positive social interactions and conflict resolution among children.
Infant Care:
- Assist in the care and supervision of infants, including feeding, diapering, and ensuring their overall well-being.
- Engage infants in age-appropriate sensory and nature-based activities.
Parent and Community Engagement:
- Communicate with parents about their child's daily activities and progress.
- Participate in community events and field trips as required.
- Encourage parent involvement in outdoor activities and learning experiences.
Professional Development:
- Stay informed about current trends and best practices in nature-based education.
- Attend relevant workshops, trainings, and conferences as required.
- Collaborate with colleagues to share resources and strategies.
Requirements:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent, Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred
Certifications:
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Nature-based education training is a plus.
- Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) preferred
Experience:
- No previous teaching experience required.
- Experience with infants and young children is preferred but not mandatory.

- Stamina to keep up with the energy levels of infants and young children.
- Capability to set up and take down outdoor classroom materials and equipment.
