NSM is approved as an independent school by the Vermont State Board of Education to provide general and special education services to students, ages 5-22 in grades K-12 in the disability categories of Intellectual Disability, Specific Learning Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Other Health Impairment, Emotional Disturbance, Speech or Language Impairment, Developmental Delay, Multiple Disabilities, and Traumatic Brain Injury. Additionally, NSM operates a program for adult alumni with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Program Director with Special Education:
Position: NSM is currently seeking a Program Director with Special Education that is responsible for coordinating instructional and educational opportunities that are consistent with the Program’s mission and vision. The Program Director is responsible for ensuring high quality and effective general and special education that is consistent with all federal and state requirements.
Qualifications: Licensed teacher with Special Education endorsement or Speech/Language Pathologist.
Other requirements for this position include:
Development of programming and administration of students with significant challenges.
Experience with supervision of staff, including licensed peers.
Maintain an effective, creative and success-oriented learning environment that meets the educational needs of students.
Comply with all policies and procedures with the NSM handbook, Student and Family handbook, and state/federal requirements.
Must have excellent written, verbal, and time management skills.
Must have the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with school and outside team members, and parents/guardians.
Valid driver’s license, current vehicle inspection and car insurance is required.
Compensation & Benefits: This is a full-time position, with an annual salary of $50,000 to $75,000. Based on the core subjects, they develop, plan, and implement curriculum, lesson plans, and educational programs for student audiences within and outside their areas of expertise. Prefer a teacher with experience working with students with significant communication disorders, Autism, and Life Skills.
Qualifications: Must be a licensed special educator (or be seeking licensure) or a licensed Educational SLP in the state of Vermont, qualified by training and experience in the areas of instruction.
Other requirements for this position include:
Must have working knowledge of the evaluation process, IEP process, write student goals, special education assessments and paperwork that is required for documentation purposes.
Must have knowledge of and preferably experience in working with students who receive Special Education services.
Create engaging learning opportunities that are consistent with students’ goals, are aligned with the program’s mission and vision, and the Vermont proficiencies.
