The Mental Health Counselor educates and trains MHS participants on independent living skills. Serves as a link to community resources and provides case management services to MHS participants.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide support and linkage to community resources for participants
- Provide transportation for participants to and from related to the completion of treatment goals and objectives
- Maintain a caseload up to 5 participants with mental health diagnosis that require assistance with daily function
- Provide training and education on independent living skills utilizing the approved curriculum
- Complete all Progress Notes using sound clinical documentation and abiding by all agency, Medicaid, and licensure standards
- Be available for 24 Hour Emergency Crisis Response to assigned participant
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- Be available to provide services during the day, evening, weekends and holidays.
- Own an operable, registered and insured vehicle.
- Have and use own vehicle for service delivery.
- Keep vehicle registered and insured during entire length of employment.
- Provide participant and guardian/family transportation in own vehicle to conduct case management and counseling services when deemed necessary.
- Provide and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Provide services in various neighborhoods, including crime-ridden and poverty stricken communities.
- Conduct home visits and counseling sessions within the homes of participants, which may present in unsanitary and/or unhealthy conditions.
- Possess, keep, use and own a personal cell phone providing the cell phone number to the Program Coordinator, Field Supervisor, participants, and legal guardians for service delivery.
- ·Possess, keep, and check daily assigned Y-CAPP e-mail address at least 2 times per day.
- ·Have access to and ability to use a computer, printer, internet services, and other necessary items and equipment to produce electronic program documentation/paperwork.
- ·Maintain communication with Field Supervisor and other Unit employees through e-mail and cell phone usage as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability·
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Experience in clinical counseling and case management
Educations and Specifications
Require Qualified Mental Health Professional – Adult (QMHP-A) credentials:
(i) A doctor of medicine or osteopathy licensed in Virginia
(ii) A doctor of medicine or osteopathy, specializing in psychiatry and licensed in Virginia;
(iii)An individual with a master’s degree in psychology from an accredited college or university with at least one year of clinical experience;
(iv) A social worker: an individual with at least a bachelor’s degree in human services or related field (social work, psychology, psychiatric rehabilitation, sociology, counseling, vocational rehabilitation, human services counseling or other degree deemed equivalent to those described) from an accredited college and with at least one year of clinical experience providing direct services to individuals with a diagnosis of mental illness.
(v) A person with at least bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in an unrelated field that includes at least 15 semester credits (or equivalent) in a human services field and who has at least three years of clinical experience;
(vi) A Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Provider (CPRP) registered with the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association (USPRA);
(vii) A registered nurse licensed in Virginia with at least one year of clinical experience; or
(viii)Any other licensed mental health professional
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour

- 4 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
