Maternal Child Health (MCH) is part of NYAM Research. MCH focuses on advancing the health and well-being of mothers, birthing parents and children through innovative and rigorous research, policy advocacy, and community engagement. Our team is dedicated to addressing health gaps and promoting health outcomes for all families.

Position Summary / Overview :

Maternal Child Health research department is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic and innovative Associate Director with strong quantitative and qualitative skills who can generate and implement ideas that drive impactful research initiatives. The team is a highly collaborative group that works together to complete a range of mixed-methods projects. This full-time position is perfect for a forward-thinking population health researcher with a passion for leveraging advanced technologies to tackle and improve public health outcomes in maternal child health.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Innovative Research : Design and conduct cutting-edge epidemiological studies focused on the social determinants of health in maternal child health.
  • Data Collection / Management / Interpretation : Design quantitative and / or qualitative studies; oversee and run data analyses.
  • Internal Project Management : Coordinate all aspects of projects independently; supervise work of others.
  • Grant Writing : Write and submit compelling grant proposals to secure funding from federal, state, local, and foundation sources.
  • Publication and Dissemination : Publish research findings online and in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present them to the community and at scientific conferences.
  • Multisectoral Collaboration : Collaborate with a diverse range of partners, including governmental agencies, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, healthcare providers, and academic institutions.
  • Program Development : Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative, community-centered maternal child health.
  • Expertise and Policy Support : Provide expert insights in social epidemiology to support public health initiatives and policy development.
  • Mentorship : Mentor and supervise junior researchers and students, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Change Agent : Drive innovation and act as a change agent within NYAM and broader community.
  • External Representation : Independently develop and present on content areas and / or methods to a range of external audiences; provide leadership on presentation preparation; support existing and foster new collaborations and external partnerships.
  • Other Duties as Assigned .

Qualifications :

  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Proven track record of successful grant writing and management of a grant portfolio.
  • Highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities.
  • Competency and comfort with diverse populations and in community settings.
  • Ability to engage in data collection and meetings (e.g., focus groups) on occasional weekends and evenings, depending on project needs.
  • Deep and working knowledge of advanced public health mixed research methods required. Strong quantitative skills and proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, STATA, Python).
  • Experience with qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo, Dedoose). Knowledge of natural language processing, large language models, and / or strong machine learning skills are a plus.
  • Education and Experience :

  • Master’s degree and 5 years relevant work experience or PhD and 3 years relevant work experience. Graduate degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Economics, Nursing, Medicine, or a related field.
  • Record of research excellence in conducting studies on the prevalence and incidence of health issues affecting maternal, child, and adolescent populations.
  • Language Skills :

  • Written and spoken English proficiency required. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

    Salary and Benefits :

    We offer competitive salary and benefits packages, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary range for this position is between $115,000 and $125,000.
