Overview

Based in the Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, the Education and Outreach Coordinator will work with the Billy Rose Theatre Division’s librarians and curatorial staff to introduce students of all ages to our world-renowned theatre collections. The coordinator will welcome students and teachers to the Library building and build and maintain relationships with teachers and administrators at local schools to bring our collections into classrooms. This is a 2.5 year temporary position.

We are looking for someone we can count on to :

  • Designing curriculum for Theatre exhibitions and collection use
  • Coordinating class visits with Theatre Division staff
  • Collaborating with the Division’s Program and Outreach coordinator to schedule and manage. K-12 and University use of the Harvey Fierstein Theatre Lab
  • Working with K-12 teachers and principals to encourage awareness and use of the Theatre Division

Teach :

  • Students and teachers how to use the Theatre Division’s resources
  • Theatre Division staff on best practices for working with K-12 students
  • Learn :

  • New theatre technologies with which they are not yet familiar
  • To use and handle special collections
  • The educational capabilities of the Harvey Fierstein Theatre Lab
  • Improve :

  • Educational work of the Theatre Division by developing and maintaining new relationships with educators in the New York City area and beyond
  • Some expectations for this role are that within :

    1 month , this person will :

  • Understand the current educational capabilities of the Harvey Fierstein Theatre Lab
  • Meet  with staff at LaGuardia High School and in the New York City Department of Education
  • 3 months , this person will :

  • Build relationships with teachers at both public and private K-12 schools to discuss educational opportunities in the Theatre Division
  • Develop a plan to increase use of Theatre Division resources by K-12 students
  • 6 months and beyond , this person will :

  • Regularly host class visits at the Library
  • Collaborate with other organizations to ensure teachers and students know how to navigate our resources on and off-site
  • Responsibilities

  • Arrange for and track statistics for all class visits
  • Coordinate outreach to K-12 schools
  • Design and promote curricula related to Theatre exhibitions and programs
  • Work closely with the NYPL Center for Education to advance the Library’s educational objectives
  • Collaborate with the Outreach and Programs coordinator to ensure the Lab is effectively used for education
  • Familiarizes themselves to the Theatre Division’s Special Collections before introducing the collections to students
  • Performs other related duties as required
  • Required Education, Experience & Skills

    Required Education & Certifications

  • Undergraduate degree in theatre or a related field with coursework in theatre education
  • Required Experience

  • At least two years experience working with K-12 students in a theatre classroom setting
  • Required Skills

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate with teams and individuals across a large and diverse public institution
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies with which they are not yet familiar
  • Ability to inspire K-12 students

  • 35 hours per week with a flexible schedule Monday - Friday, including Saturdays and evening hours
