Overview
The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts houses one of the world's most extensive combinations of circulating, reference, and rare archival collections in its field. These materials are available free of charge, along with a wide range of special programs, including exhibitions, seminars, and performances. This will be a temporary position funded until the end of April 2026.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Associate Manager of Circulating Services, the Library Technical Assistant II performs the following duties supporting public access to circulating theater, dance, recorded sound and film collections of the Library for the Performing Arts:
- Provides circulation/reference service and instruction to library patrons of all ages using print, media and digital resources
- Answers questions from the public in person, over the telephone and electronically
- Assists in collection maintenance, reserves and opening/closing procedures
- Performs community outreach to promote and increase public participation and use of library services
- Processes incoming Library materials
- Assists in planning and implementing collection maintenance projects
- Instructs patrons on the use of the Internet, computer applications and other Library services
- Ensures patrons follow library policies and procedures
- Performs other related duties as required
Required Education & Certifications
- High school diploma and relevant work experience in a library or similar institution
- Successfully demonstrated work experience in a library or similar, customer-focused organization
- Successfully demonstrated public service experience with the ability to work well with a diverse range of patrons
- Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Successfully demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
- Good organization and planning skills, including the ability to perform multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
- Computer and other related technology skills, including Google Workspace and Microsoft 365.
