Overview
The Jerome Robbins Dance Division is the world's largest dance archive with an international and extensive collection that spans seven centuries. Founded in 1944, we provide a community space for dance professionals, researchers and the general public, offering programs and exhibitions, a dance studio for special projects, educational activities, residencies, fellowships, documentation of performances and oral histories and, of course, dance reference services, all free of charge.
The Dance Division seeks applications for an LTA III who will serve a critical role in our reference services. Reporting to the Division's supervising librarian, the LTA III will provide reference on public service desks, assist with collection development of general research books, create dance libguides to promote our resources, inventory and prepare materials for cataloging and assist with a variety of public service tasks including photo orders, email and phone reference and metadata management.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to Divisional reference services through remote consultations and in-person public service
- Provide reference on public service desks
- Assist with collection development of general research books
- Create dance libguides to promote our resources, to share information about new collections and materials, and to assist patrons with using our catalog
- Inventory and prepare materials for cataloging
- Assist with a variety of public service tasks including photo orders, email and phone reference and metadata management
- Perform other assigned duties as necessary
Required Education & Certifications
- High School Diploma
- Experience in a library, archives, or museum context
- knowledge of the performing arts, preferably dance
- Experience in public service, particularly at a research library or similar institution
- Experience working with diverse audiences and community stakeholders
- Organizational skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with staff, the general public, and dance professionals
- Proficient in the use of ILS, in addition to G-Suite and Microsoft Office applications
