Job Overview
The Manager of Race Day Operations oversees and coordinates racing integrity functions related before and during the course of a day of racing. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of NYRA’s Horse Identification, Paddock Operations and Jockey’s Room. The candidate will directly supervise the duties and performance of the Paddock Judge, Horse Identifier and Clerk of Scales, as well as individuals who work under each of those positions. Managerial responsibilities will include scheduling of all applicable teams and coordinating the cross-training of officials to perform the duties of Paddock Judge, Horse Identifier, Assistant Horse Identifier, Clerk of Scales, and Assistant Clerk of Scales, as needed. Finally, the position also oversees the NYRA blacksmiths and paddock employees.

Essential Functions
- Responsible for working with the Stewards, Sr. Director of Racing, Safety Stewards, Stall Office, and racing department to ensure that each race day operates as smoothly and safely as possible with a high standard of integrity.
- The creation of standard operating procedures to promote integrity, safety, efficiency, and harmonize functions between these relevant groups.
- Train racing officials from the Racing Office and Horse ID to be proficient in other racing related duties, including running the Jockey’s Room, Paddock, and work in the Horse ID office
- Ensures NYRA’s compliance with applicable HISA and NYSGC regulations, as well as NYRA house rules.
- Creates daily or weekly reports highlighting issues faced outside of the scope of normal operations.
- May serve as a substitute steward or safety steward, as required.

Other Qualifications
- Ability to be licensed by the New York State Gaming Commission
- Knowledge of NYSGC and HISA rules and regulations
- Previous experience as a Racing Official, particularly working in the capacity of Horse Identifier, Paddock Judge, or Clerk of Scales
- Comfortable around and knowledgeable about horses
- Strong understanding of the various jobs in the racing department and their responsibilities; especially those related to paddock operations, Horse ID, and operation of the Jockeys’ Room
- Sound judgement, common sense, and a high level of professionalism at all times
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Accredited through the Racing Officials Accreditation Program and in good standing with CE requirements.
- Knowledge of the rules, regulations, and customs of racing industry
- Ability to perform duties of Paddock Judge, Horse Identifier, and Clerk of Scales as needed
- Proficient in use of Incompass system, microchip reader, Jockey Club Registry software, Microsoft Word and Excel
- Knowledge of the dangers and risks associated with working around horses
