What are the responsibilities and job description for the Spanish Teacher position at The Newman School?
The Newman School is seeking a full-time Spanish Teacher. Newman School Faculty report directly to the Assistant Head of School and are a member of an educational department. Candidates with French experience are encouraged to apply. The teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the course curriculum, as designed and assigned by the department chair, and meeting the departmental major objectives. In addition to teaching, Newman faculty advise a group of students and contribute to the overall program (clubs, activities, athletics) the equivalent of one out of two terms. The successful candidate will be a passionate educator who is committed to the mission of Newman and displays a sensitivity to and understanding of students with diverse learning styles. The Spanish teacher will foster a positive, structured, and caring environment, while also adhering to the goals of the International Baccalaureate - to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Preparing and delivering engaging and developmentally appropriate Spanish lessons to students in grades 7-12
Engaging in professional development related to the International Baccalaureate
Effectively using technology to enhance instruction and learning
Assessing student performance and providing feedback that supports growth and development
Conducting parent conferences and communicating effectively with parents and families
Collaborate with colleagues in grade-level team meetings and department meetings
As an advisor, serve as a primary point of contact for parents and families
Engage in coaching or activities outside of the classroom as assigned
