Position Overview
We are seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team on a part-time or per diem basis. In this role, you will focus heavily on aftercare planning and step-down services for clients who are preparing to complete our residential treatment program. You’ll also assist with groups and assessments, helping to ensure continuity of care as clients transition to the next phase of their recovery journey.
Key Responsibilities
Case Management & Aftercare Coordination
- Develop and implement aftercare plans, including referrals for outpatient services, sober living arrangements, or other step-down programs.
- Assist clients with administrative needs related to FMLA, disability, and other essential documentation.
- Maintain regular communication with external providers and referral sources to ensure seamless support post-discharge.
Group Facilitation & Assessments
- Lead or co-facilitate group therapy sessions, promoting open dialogue and peer support.
- Conduct initial and ongoing assessments in collaboration with the clinical team, ensuring treatment plans remain comprehensive and up-to-date.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with the multidisciplinary team—including therapists, medical staff, and leadership—to provide integrated client care.
- Communicate with families and loved ones regarding discharge plans, fostering a robust support network beyond the residential setting.
Compliance & Documentation
- Complete timely progress notes and maintain accurate client records in line with Joint Commission and Hawai‘i State standards.
- Stay current with industry best practices and ethical guidelines, integrating new knowledge into client care.
Qualifications:
Certification & Education
- Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) in the State of Hawai‘i (or eligibility to obtain).
- Additional credentials or training in mental health or co-occurring disorders is a plus.
- AA Degree or Bachelors Degree preferred
Experience
- Previous experience in residential addiction treatment or a related clinical setting strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with case management, discharge planning, or similar transitional care duties.
- Knowledge of 12-step and Addiction is a must.

Pay: $26.00 - $32.00 per hour
