What are the responsibilities and job description for the Art Director position at The Ohio State University?
The Art Director leverages in-depth creative leadership knowledge and experience to ensure visual communications align with the artistic direction and overall strategy of Student Life Marketing. Reporting to the Director of Marketing Operations, the Art Director oversees and leads all team members in the Student Life creative center and promotes a positive and professional work environment for all staff and students in the Office of Student Life.
Key responsibilities include:
- Hires, develops, inspires and coaches design staff while ensuring project timelines are upheld.
- Ensures all creative projects align with university, Student Life, and departmental goals and values.
- Implementing procedures to achieve timely production of communication materials.
- Collaborates with Marketing Operations Director to determine strategy and artistic direction for marketing tools and planning and serves as a backup to Marketing Operations Director as needed.
- Facilitates project update meetings as well as other individual and group sessions to develop and improve upon current creative projects
- Directs and coordinates projects and materials for publications and promotions
- Monitors and maintains creative center budget
- Oversees visual communications for the Office of Student Life
- Sets team-based goals, directs art, and reviews progress
- Acts as liaison with University Marketing and University Communications as needed
- Ensures compliance with university visual identity, and maintains guidelines for branding and consistency
- Oversees the execution of all elements of visual communications
- Creates, designs and oversees production of print, online and multimedia communications
- Works with colleagues across the organization from varied disciplines
- Works with service vendors (print shop, display makers, etc.)
- Assists with and coordinates the consistency of design elements and ensures consistently designed projects
- Explores best design practices for video, graphic and web design
- Leads high-profile Student Life design projects and visual identity
As a leader and manager, this role also participates in the development of policies and procedures to achieve specific goals. Uses judgment, evaluation and interpretation to help others select the right course of action. Impact is typically on medium-term (1-2 year) goals. Translates goals into operational activities and guides their execution. Interacts with peers, individual contributors and stakeholders to discuss and resolve operational matters. May influence or explain to other outside of immediate area policies, practices and procedures to gain cooperation.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's Level Degree in relevant degree program or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5 years of relevant experience
- Proficiency in Mac and PC based platforms
- Extensive experience with Adobe Creative Suite and other design-related programs
- Knowledge of pre-press processes and experience working with printing and production companies
- Extensive experience working within corporate/university identity guidelines

- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to lead and prioritize a high-volume of projects

Job Profile Pay Range
$94,400.00 - 124,200.00
Offers will be made within this range based on candidate qualifications, internal equity, and available budget.
