The Veterinary Medical Center at The Ohio State University is searching for a Veterinary Care Assistant to assist in the provision of care to ill and injured animals as wells a providing assistance to clinicians, staff and professional students in the days to day operations of the Veterinary Medical Center; Provides basic patient care functions such as taking temperature, pulse and respiration monitoring, and assists with IV fluid administration; assists in the collection of lab specimens such as blood, urine, and feces for testing; assists with patient assessment, restraint and treatments; may train student employees in prescribed care of animals; comforts and cares for hospitalized animal patients; walks patients and provides clean housing, food, and water at all times; monitors patients and notifies technician or veterinarian of any unusual changes or symptoms; assists with the admission and discharge of patients including loading and unloading of animals; transports patients within the VMC and to Goss Lab; delivers specimens to necropsy; stocks supplies including feed, medical supplies and equipment; cleans and disinfects treatment and surgical areas, animals housing units, adjacent areas and supporting equipment following prescribed sanitation procedures and observing rules of epidemiology to prevent spread of disease; carries out prescribed bedding and methods of removing bedding; stocks and rotates feed; checks for spoilage; stocks supplies; performs daily cleaning of outdoor dog exercise areas and VMC entrance; general cleaning of all animal areas to include windows, floors, light covers, ledges, hallways, vents, receiving rooms etc.; replaces light bulbs when necessary; notifies supervisor of need for non-routine repairs; may assists with laundry; provides clerical support when necessary; subject to working in both large animal and small animal areas based on need; other duties as assigned; hours to be 9:00am to 5:30pm Monday - Friday; may work rotating weekends and holidays; may be subject to on-call; this position is subject to a background check
Hiring Range - $19.00 - $21.68 per hour
