Old Dominion Insulation, Inc. is looking for a Construction Estimator (entry level to experienced) to join our Preconstruction Team in North Carolina.


Major Duties and Responsibilities


Estimator:

  • Manage bid pricing from all vendors
  • Review documentation (e.g., plans, specifications), communicate with the vendor and contractor, and visits job sites and other venues as needed to ensure understanding of the scope of work and project requirements
  • Research the cost of items (e.g., materials, equipment, labor) on an ongoing basis to ensure accurate estimates
  • Complete take-offs using onscreen take-off software to gather information needed for bids
  • Generate accurate, detailed, and timely estimates and purchase orders for all products
  • Prepare and submit bid packages within the specified timeframe
  • Conduct ongoing cost analysis to verify profitability and adjust estimating procedures when necessary
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with vendors and trade partners
  • Manage all potential change orders
  • Communicates with trade partners and team members throughout all stages of the project to ensure the project stays within budget
  • Continually seek and identify opportunities to grow and position the business for success
  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of project logs and directories of suppliers, contractors and other trade partners


Assistant Estimator:

  • Attend site visits, pre-bid walkthroughs and other pre-project meetings
  • Compile all documents needed to generate a bid
  • Help collect additional information from customers and/or vendors as needed to assist estimators with identifying factors affecting costs, such as production time, materials, and labor; and incorporate quantities and pricing into the project budget
  • Organize, review, and prepare job files, identifying clear scopes of work and any potential risk factors
  • Assist with generating construction budget by studying plans, completing quality takeoffs, and evaluating updated plans for changes
  • Double-check estimates
  • Assist with presenting and explaining project budgets to customers, operations team, and others
  • Monitor customer and project deadlines and communicate any changes or issues to the team
  • Assist with identifying and tracking leads, proposals, and bids
  • Oversee work progress, review and update logs, and communicate potential issues and challenges to estimator and other team members
  • Identify and resolve deviations from the proposal, including scope and specifications, throughout the entire course of the project
  • Write up technical reports, purchase orders, project updates, and proposals


Take Off Engineer:

  • Conduct pre-bid document review by reading and interpreting project specifications and documents
  • Use take-off software to generate quality project take-offs
  • Double check estimates
  • Create and maintain estimating and project logs with key deliverables and due dates
  • Request and verify quotes from suppliers and others to identify accurate costs in accordance with the scope of work
  • Track and update customer and supplier information, and manage local database
  • Assist and support estimators in the bid process
  • Deliver bids and other time sensitive documents, as needed, to the project owner and others
  • Review purchase orders and change orders, and costs changes
  • Communicate effectively with general contractors, owners, suppliers, and other customers and team members
  • Collect, analyze, and communicate information, data, and trends as needed by the estimating team for reporting purposes
  • Filing, organizing, scanning, and other administrative tasks


Qualifications


Estimator:

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience in construction estimating
  • Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science, Engineering or related field
  • Ability to read, understand, and navigate architectural plans and specifications
  • Ability to multi-task, meet strict deadlines, and manage time and priorities effectively
  • Considerable knowledge of construction processes
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Excellent math and analytical skills
  • Detail-orientated and decisive
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
  • Impeccable problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, vendors, clients, and other trade partners

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience using onscreen take-off software
  • Professional certificate in construction estimating


Assistant Estimator:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science, Engineering or related field; or some college (2 years) and 4 years’ experience in the construction industry
  • Working knowledge of commercial construction processes and costs
  • Ability to read, understand, and navigate construction blueprints, plans, and project specifications
  • Ability to multi-task, meet strict deadlines, and manage time and priorities effectively
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, vendors, clients, and other trade partners
  • Excellent math and analytical skills
  • Critical thinker and problem-solver
  • Self-directed, highly organized, and detail-orientated
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and other computer applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior construction estimating experience
  • Prior experience using onscreen take-off software


Take Off Engineer:

Minimum Qualifications

  • HS diploma (or equivalent)
  • Working knowledge of commercial construction processes and costs
  • Ability to read, understand, and navigate construction blueprints, plans, and project specifications
  • Ability to multi-task, meet strict deadlines, and manage time and priorities effectively
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, vendors, clients, and other trade partners
  • Strong math and analytical skills
  • Highly organized and detail-orientated
  • Team-oriented
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and other computer applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some college experience with coursework in Applied Science, Engineering or related field
  • Experience reading and interpreting plans and specifications
  • Previous experience using onscreen take-off software (e.g., Bluebeam)

 

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to the following:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Able to walk, sit, stand, bend, kneel, stretch, squat and climb
  • Able to travel to jobsites, meetings, and other destinations as needed
  • Able to see, talk and hear in person, via phone and/or through online/video
  • Able to use hands and fingers in a manner that allows for use of a keyboard and phone.
  • Able to lift & carry items up to 15 lbs
