The Health Department Head (SY2025-26) is responsible for providing leadership and direction that supports school-wide and department goals, effective teaching of health education and professional growth by encouraging faculty to examine pedagogy through both study and practice. The department head shares responsibility for the design, organization, support, and evaluation of the curriculum and the physical and material resources necessary to implement it.
Anticipated start date : August 2025
The department head should have 5-10 years of teaching experience, preferably in at least two division levels, and hold an advanced degree, ideally in administrative leadership or supervision. The department head has reduced teaching responsibilities in order to fulfill the administrative responsibilities of the department head and receives an additional stipend.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead 7-person (5FTE’s) department in advancing the school’s mission and departmental goals
- Collaborate closely with other administrators on hiring, retention, evaluation, and professional growth of health education teaching faculty
- Ensure cohesion and continuity of health ed curriculum in grades K-12 using best practices
- Organize department meetings structured around departmental and school-wide goals
- Departmental visioning, including setting goals / priorities of the department
- Serve on Department Heads group, responsible for broad curricular and instructional initiatives
- Serve on Academic Council, responsible for schoolwide programmatic planning
- Manage departmental budget
- Communicate with parents and the wider community through a series of evening and morning talks about the health education department’s philosophy and curriculum
- Assume primary responsibility for the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of all health department faculty
- Create and implement a departmental budget that provides for classroom materials, professional conferences, speakers, programs, and other instructional needs for faculty in collaboration with the three division heads
- Plan and lead health department meetings that articulate a vision for the department, as well as set and accomplish annual departmental goals in collaboration with department members
- Acquaint new faculty with departmental practices

Salaries are determined based on a scale reflecting years of teaching experience and level of education.
