Health Department Head and Middle School Health Teacher
Full-Time Position
Starting August 2025
Overview
Spence seeks a dedicated educator to lead our Health Education Department. The Health Department Head guides the development and implementation of the K-12 Health curriculum, manages the health education team, and helps foster a school culture focused on student well-being so as to ensure that students are equipped with the knowledge and skills to live healthy, balanced lives.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the design, implementation, and review of the K-12 Health curriculum
- Supervise and support the delivery of K-12 Health instruction across all grade levels
- Coordinate alignment of Health and Advisory programming
- Support professional growth of all health teachers.
- Oversee course sectioning, staffing, and scheduling for the department
- Plan and lead department meetings to encourage collaboration and continuous improvement
- Collaborate with the administrative team to hire faculty for the department
- Represent the department to faculty, staff, students, and parents
- Serve on school-wide committees
- Manage the department’s budget and allocate resources effectively
- Teach Middle School Health Grades 5-7
- Serve as a Middle School Advisor

Qualifications
- Has sustained experience teaching Health
- Possesses successful departmental or equivalent school-leadership experience
- Possesses a strong understanding of current health issues facing young people including physical, emotional, and mental health
- Finds joy in working with children and in school life
- Leads with energy, kindness and a sense of humor
- Demonstrates cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
- Shows an appreciation for the craft of teaching
- Demonstrates ability to foster sustained collaboration and professional growth within a team
