The kindergarten assistant teacher and instructor in the after-school program is a member of the school’s lower division and reports to the lower division head. Responsibilities
- Kindergarten Classroom:
- Support the lead teacher in all aspects of the Kindergarten program
- Assist with class transitions
- Collaborate during planning times with classroom teacher
- Assist with supervision of recess and lunch, and naps
- Transition children to after-school
- Guide students in their social-emotional development, maintaining expectations and support for positive and productive student behavior
- Participate in the school community, including faculty and committee work, weekly school duties, and activities such as (e.g., Grandparents & Special Friends Day, Yule festival, May Day etc.).
- After-School Teacher:
- Plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate lessons and activities for ASP students
- Guide students in their social-emotional development, maintaining expectations and support for positive and productive student behavior
- Actively engage and interact with ASP students
- Assure the safety and well-being of ASP students at all times
- Regularly communicate with families, colleagues, and administrators regarding student’s development at ASP
- Meet expectations as defined by the Park School Employee Essential Expectations
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Experience teaching, preferably Early Childhood
- Demonstrated experience working in a culturally diverse community
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Creative problem-solving skills, a positive attitude that allows one to cooperate and collaborate effectively with others
- Motivation for and interest in professional development
- High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- The ability to effectively interpret, navigate, mediate, and resolve conflict in a timely manner
- Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the school, such as Veracross, SchoolPass, Atlas etc.
- The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30 minute periods of time
- The ability to regularly walk on and travel across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.)
- The ability to lead, supervise and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas), including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency.
- The ability to regularly stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down in order to support students.
- The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions
- The ability to lift and hold 15 lbs overhead.
- The ability to occasionally transport (e.g., move or drag) 25 lbs.
- The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment
