Employment Type : Seasonal Exempt (May 1st to July 31st)
The Head Swim Coach is responsible for leading and managing the PGCC swim program.. Reporting to the Director of Wellness & Aquatics, the Head Swim Coach will oversee the summer Swim & Dive Team, including planning and leading practices, organizing swim meets, fostering team spirit, and coordinating merchandise for the team. This position plays a vital role in creating a positive, fun, and competitive swim program for members and their families while ensuring the safety and development of all participants. This position has the potential opportunity to turn into an independent contractor role with additional year-round hours.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Swim & Dive Team Program Leadership :
Plan, organize, and conduct all swim team practices, ensuring they are engaging, age-appropriate, and effective for swimmers of all skill levels.
Lead swimmers during meets, fostering a supportive and motivating environment.
Meet regularly with the Director of Wellness & Aquatics to report on program progress and discuss goals.
Collaborate with the Swim & Dive Committee and attend PISL meetings.
Team Administration :
Serve as the primary point of contact for swim team members and their families, providing timely communication about schedules, events, and team updates.
Work closely with the Director of Wellness & Aquatics to develop the swim team schedule, including practice times, meets, and team events.
Manage the team's Swimtopia website to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
Collaborate with the Director of Wellness & Aquatics to plan and manage the budget for the swim team
Team Culture & Development :
Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and individual growth.
Plan team-building activities and events to strengthen team spirit and engagement.
Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to swimmers, focusing on their improvement and confidence.
Team merchandise coordination : Coordinate the ordering and distribution of swim team merchandise, such as apparel, caps, and team gear.
Requirements
Certified Swim Coach
CPR / First Aid certification
3-5 Years of coaching experience
Experience with swim team administration (scheduling, coordinating meets, managing team logistics).
Knowledge of competitive swimming (stroke mechanics, training techniques, and race strategies).
Experience with swim team management software (ex. Swimtopia) is a plus.
Must be available 3-7 PM on Tuesday-Friday, 9 : 30-10 : 30 AM on Saturdays, and 8 AM-4 PM on Sundays
