JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Post-doctoral Scholar in the Department of Plant Science will conduct research to identify and evaluate nitrogen management strategies in dairy crop production to sustain crop production and reduce nitrous oxide and greenhouse gas emissions. Research approaches will include exploring the scientific research literature, quantifying nitrous oxide emissions on commercial Pennsylvania dairy farm crop fields, evaluating scientific methods for measuring emissions, and working with field data to inform agroecosystem model improvement. The position is supported by the CARAT Climate-Smart Agriculture commodities project that facilitates adoption of practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions from commercial dairy farms in Pennsylvania. An interdisciplinary research and extension team is identifying and evaluating production practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, sustain farm productivity and enhance economic performance via carbon credit markets.
A doctoral degree in agronomy, crop science, agroecology, soil science or agricultural engineering is required; cropping system greenhouse gas and nitrogen management research experience is preferred.
This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire with a good possibility of re-funding.
