Chiller / Boiler Technician
Location: Southeast Louisiana, including Baton Rouge, Hammond, etc.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay Range: $34 - $43/ hour
Schedule: Four 10’s, Tuesday - Friday
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Chiller/Boiler Technician to join our facilities maintenance team to maintain, operate, and repair boilers, chillers, and related HVAC equipment to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency in our facilities.
Essential Job Functions:
- Operate, inspect, and maintain boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and associated equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts as needed.
- Monitor gauges, meters, and control panels to ensure proper system operation.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in HVAC systems.
- Perform repairs and overhauls on equipment such as pumps, valves, and heat exchangers.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Respond to emergency calls and perform necessary repairs outside of regular hours.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Boiler Operator's license or certification.
- Up-to-date refrigerant license.
- EPA Universal Technician certification.
- 5 years of experience in commercial and industrial chiller and boiler (C&B) systems operation and repairs.
- Proficiency with York, Carrier, Trane, and Aubrey chiller & boiler brands, including air-cooled and water-cooled, cylindrical, rotary, scroll, and centrifugal chillers.
- Experience using software and hardware for C&B systems diagnostics.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including boilers, chillers, and cooling towers.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, and warranty/guarantee certificates.
- Proficiency in using computerized building automation systems.
- Working knowledge of Integrated Engineering Management System (IEMS).
- Compliance with OSHA and relevant safety policies/guidance.
- Must be able to pass a federal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
- Must have a clean driving record and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Specialized Technical Knowledge/ Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using software and hardware for C&B systems diagnostics.
- Technical proficiency with Carrier, Marley, Trane IntelliPak models, Trane M-Series models, and York models.
- Trane RTAC: Operating characteristics of 140-500 ton machines, GP2 compressor construction and operation, falling film evaporator construction and operation, CH530 control architecture and operating logic.
- Trane RTAA: Helical rotary chiller operation, unit wiring and interconnecting diagrams, control start sequence and operating logic, system control methods for building automation.
- York Air Cooled Rotary Screw Liquid (YCAS) Chillers: System components and functions, refrigerant flow, compressor capacity control, start-up procedures, MicroPanel operation, setup, and service procedures.
- Associate's degree in HVAC technology or related field.
- Completed courses in Trane Rotary Chiller Air-Cooled Development Sequence (RTAC), Trane Rotary Chilled Air-Cooled First Sequence (RTAA), and York Chiller Air-cooled Screw (YCAS).
- Additional certifications such as Certified Building Operator or Certified Energy Manager.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to work at heights, climb stairs/ladders, and have full motor skills for tedious and strenuous work.
- Ability to walk/stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift heavy bulky objects.
- Ability to work with hand tools required to maintain chillers, boilers, etc.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in tight/cramped spaces.
- Ability and willingness to work after hours, overtime, weekends, and adjust work schedule for repairs and emergencies.
