Position Overview
The Volunteer Coordinator will be at the heart of The Pet Cottage's mission, supporting our Forever Guardians and managing onsite volunteers. This role ensures that Forever Guardians and volunteers feel valued, equipped, and supported in providing exceptional care and companionship to the pets in our Forever Guardianship Program. The position involves working with diverse populations, including seniors and senior pets. It requires exceptional communication skills, patience, the ability to engage effectively with people from all walks of life, and the ability to read a room, recognize what needs to be done, and take the initiative to do it.
Key Responsibilities
1. Forever Guardian Support
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Forever Guardians, ensuring they have the resources, guidance, and support needed to care for their companion pets.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all Forever Guardians and the pets in their care, including veterinary and general care updates.
- Write and distribute a monthly email to Forever Guardians, providing updates, resources, and encouragement.
- Facilitate communication among Forever Guardians to build a sense of community and shared purpose.
2. Onsite Volunteer Management
- Recruit, onboard, and train volunteers for onsite roles, including pet care, facility support, and events.
- Maintain detailed records for all onsite volunteers, including contact information, availability, and contributions.
- Write and distribute a monthly email to onsite volunteers, sharing schedules, resources, and updates on organizational needs.
- Develop and maintain a volunteer schedule to ensure proper coverage for daily operations and special projects.
- Act as the go-to person for onsite volunteers, providing guidance and resolving any issues as they arise.
3. Program Development and Community Engagement
- Host informational meetings and workshops to educate the public about the role of Forever Guardians and how they can get involved.
- Collaborate with team members to create meaningful engagement opportunities, such as training sessions, social events, and educational programs for volunteers and Forever Guardians.
- Represent The Pet Cottage at community events, foster relationships, recruit new volunteers, and promote awareness of the Forever Guardianship Program.
4. Collaborative Teamwork
- Work closely with The Pet Cottage Sunshine Committee to coordinate activities that support and celebrate volunteers and Forever Guardians.
- Partner with the Furry Godmothers team to ensure pets in the Forever Guardianship Program receive the resources and support they need.
- Collaborate with the Meds Team Leader to ensure all pets in the program receive appropriate and timely medical care.
Qualifications
- A deep passion for animal welfare and The Pet Cottage’s mission.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate others.
- Previous experience in volunteer coordination, program management, or a related role (preferred).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in technology and volunteer management tools (or a willingness to learn).
- Empathy, patience, and the ability to connect with diverse populations, including seniors and other community members.
- A collaborative mindset and a genuine love for animals, especially senior pets.
