Nonsterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in preparing nonsterile compounded medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in support of regulatory compliance with USP 795 and 800 along with facility quality standards.Description
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Compounding Preparation:
- Accurately measure, weigh, and mix ingredients for the compounding of nonsterile medications according to established formulations and procedures
- Utilize appropriate tools and equipment, ensuring cleanliness and functionality before each use
Quality Control:
- Perform quality checks at each stage of the compounding process to verify dosage accuracy and product integrity
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety guidelines, including USP <795> for nonsterile compounding and USP <800> for hazardous drug compounding
Documentation:
- Record all compounding activities in accordance with pharmacy policies and regulatory standards
- Maintain detailed logs of ingredient batches, expiration dates, and patient-specific information
Sanitation and Safety Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, performing routine cleaning of tools, equipment, and the compounding area
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with pharmacists and other technicians to ensure accurate and timely preparation of compounded medications
- Participate in team meetings and provide input on improving compounding workflows
Additional projects and responsibilities may be designated by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- Fluent in English; bilingual proficiency in Spanish is strongly preferred
- Florida Registered Pharmacy Technician License
- Flexible work schedule, including weekends
- Strong numerical aptitude for accurate calculations
- Proven ability to multitask effectively
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Knowledge of nonsterile compounding best practices is preferred but not required
Schedule
Night Shift: Monday through Friday (10 pm to 6:30 am)
Midday Shift: Monday through Friday (1.30 pm to 10:00 am)
This schedule requires flexibility to accommodate pharmacy operations and meet patient demands.
