Our client, a high-end premier real estate and land developer, is seeking a Project Controller / Project Accountant to join their dynamic team. Who Should Apply?
We are seeking either:
- An experienced accountant with a background in construction or real estate development accounting OR
- A public accounting professional who has completed at least 2 busy seasons as an auditor, preferably with real estate clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee full-cycle accounting for multiple real estate development projects, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance.
- Manage Accounts Payable (AP), including subcontractor payments, draw requests, and fund releases.
- Prepare and monitor project budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
- Compile and submit monthly draw packages, ensuring timely fund disbursement.
- Handle lien waivers and releases, working closely with subcontractors, vendors, and lenders.
- Maintain project-specific general ledger accounts, posting journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Work closely with project managers and development teams to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and job cost accounting principles, optimizing financial controls.
- Assist in cash flow management, bank reconciliations, and funding schedules for projects.
- Prepare financial reports and work papers for internal and external stakeholders, including lenders and investors.
- Support year-end audits and tax reporting requirements.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or progress toward CPA preferred.
- 2 years in public accounting (audit) OR 3 years in real estate/construction accounting.
- Experience with real estate development, construction projects, or job cost accounting is a strong plus.
- Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., Sage, Yardi, Procore, QuickBooks) and Excel.
- Strong understanding of AP, AR, financial reporting, and compliance within a project-based environment.
- Ability to liaise with subcontractors, project managers, lenders, and executive leadership.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative office environment.
