The Supply Chain Specialist is responsible for executing and implementing supply chain processes that support business strategies, market conditions, new business opportunities, and cost-reduction initiatives. This role ensures a reliable, continuous flow of goods and services delivered on time and in full.
Essential Job Functions
Planning and Forecasting:
- Collaborate with Production Planners to forecast demand and create supply plans to ensure the availability of materials and products, providing a continuous flow.
- Utilize historical data, sales projections, and market insights to forecast future demand for products and materials.
- Develop procedures for coordinating supply chain management with Sales, Finance, Production, Operations, Quality, Warehousing, Receiving, and Inventory Control.
- Work closely with internal teams, such as production, operations, logistics, and warehousing, to ensure seamless operations.
- Collaborate with suppliers to negotiate contracts, procure goods, and monitor orders for timely delivery.
- Source and qualify materials from new suppliers to meet company needs.
- Monitor inventory levels, analyze demand and supply trends, and optimize stock levels to prevent shortages or excess inventory.
- Establish and nurture strong relationships with suppliers to ensure the delivery of quality, cost-effective, and timely goods.
- Identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop mitigation strategies to ensure operational stability.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency enhancements within the supply chain.
- Monitor purchasing policies, direct costs, indirect costs, and variable costs to implement cost-reduction strategies.
- Meet and improve standard cost targets, purchase price variance goals, quality targets, and service levels.
- Select appropriate methods for procuring materials to maximize flexibility and minimize acquisition costs and risks.
- Identify and eliminate non-value-added steps in the supply chain.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop qualified suppliers both domestically and internationally.
- Resolve delivery, quality, service, and cost issues through problem-solving and supplier performance improvements.
- Develop and implement strategies to build strong working knowledge of market conditions and suppliers.
- Support new project development efforts, including packaging and shipping strategies, to ensure successful execution.
- Assist the Accounts Payable team with invoice error resolution, the 3-way match process, and exception handling.
- Ensure early payment discounts are attained, and invoices are paid timely.
- Utilize EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) concepts and tools to achieve company goals.
- Participate in the development and definition of supply chain team performance metrics.
- Develop and define vendor performance metrics to track supplier success.
- Document physical supply chain processes and procedures.
- Support and utilize The Plant Company ERP system and related business systems.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced and potentially stressful environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Strong project organization and management skills.
- Mission-oriented with a high sense of urgency.
- Working knowledge of import/export regulations.
- Ability to maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct and practice.
- Bachelor’s Degree is preferred (equivalent industry or supply chain experience will be considered).
- Industry or supply chain experience strongly preferred.
- ERP experience, including MRP data configuration and data flow understanding.
