About the Role
Join one of the most diverse and innovative engineering design teams with multiple specialties within the transportation sector. The Port Authority's airports, ports, ferries, tunnels, bridges, bus terminals and rail transportation systems are important transportation links in the region. The Civil & Environmental Engineering unit within the Engineering / Architecture Design Division serves a unique role within the Port Authority by providing engineering planning and design services throughout the Agency with close coordination with external stakeholders including Federal, State and local transportation and regulatory agencies.
The Senior Civil Engineer will be responsible for providing Engineering design services for complex projects. Technical areas include one or more of the following civil subsets : highway / roadway design, site design, hydraulic modeling, stormwater management, utilities, airside design, passenger rail or freight rail design. The Senior Civil Engineer will prepare reports, design documents and drawings in AutoCAD. The Senior Civil Engineer will serve as technical lead on assigned projects.
The successful candidate will apply working knowledge of AASHTO, NJDEP / NYDEC stormwater, AREMA, FAA and / or similar standards or guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Produce quality design services conforming to applicable design standards, guidelines and codes.
- Prepare contract documents consisting of drawings, technical specifications and construction cost estimates. Produce biddable and constructible contract drawings meeting the scope.
- Prepare the civil engineering scope of work and budget for projects or studies.
- Provide guidance and direction to junior staff in engineering design approach and civil infrastructure.
- Perform site inspections at the Agency's facilities.
- Prepare RFP scope of work and independent staff cost estimate for professional engineering services to be performed by a Consultant.
- Audit consultant engineering studies, designs and contract documents for construction projects.
