Description
To write obituaries and news briefs, and to perform other clerical functions to keep the newsroom functioning smoothly.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Writing free obituaries and proofing the obit pages.
• Typing briefs for all news sections.
• Answering newsroom telephones.
• Distribute morning papers.
• Distribute mail.
• Maintain office equipment.
• Order office supplies.
• Errands as needed by the news desk.

Qualifications
Should have a bachelor’s degree or appropriate professional experience. Must be able to deal courteously with the public at all times. Must have a basic understanding of the principles of journalism and the operation of the newspaper.
Must have an excellent command of grammar and spelling, and a meticulous approach to writing. Must be able to effectively use computer technology. Must be able to complete multiple tasks accurately within deadlines.
Must be flexible and willing to step in to handle jobs as they arise in the newsroom that may be outside the scope of daily duties. Must be able to work any shift required.
