The Hans “Tom” Tuch Graduate Fellowship is a one-year opportunity, open to
graduate students in the Washington, DC, metropolitan region. It is an
opportunity for self-motivated individuals studying for professional careers,
to engage actively in the planning and implementation of programs promoting
excellence in the professional practice, academic study, and advocacy for
public diplomacy, working closely with public diplomacy professionals and
scholars.
The deadline for candidates’ submissions is May 15, 2025.
The Public Diplomacy Council of America is a professional association with a
501(c)3 status that was formed when the Public Diplomacy Council and the Public
Diplomacy Association of America merged in April 2022. The mission of the Public
Diplomacy Council of America is to promote excellence and honor achievement in
professional practice, academic study, and advocacy for public diplomacy.
Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of the field of public diplomacy.
2. Background in website management, digital media, and online
communications.
3. Experience in event planning and project development.
4. Superior organizational and communication skills and professional
networking and outreach capabilities.
5. Demonstrated ability to take initiatives and seek sound creative solutions.
Eligibility:
1. Accepted to any graduate program in international relations and/or
communication in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area.
2. Enrolled full-time (nine credits or more) or part-time (three credits or more).
3. Has U.S. citizenship.
Approximate hours per week: 20
Start Date: June 15, 2025
End Date: June 30, 2026
Monthly Stipend: $1,250
Reports to: PDCA President and designated members of the PDCA Communication
and Program Committees
Duties:
1. Support the work of the PDCA Board of Directors:
a. Work closely with the PDCA president and other designated officers to
communicate with the Board and process documents as needed.
b. Maintain official organization records in a form available to all members.
2. Monitor the organization’s email accounts and respond to or forward emails as
needed.
3. Coordinate with the PDCA Communication Committee and other authors to draft
and disseminate the Update, PDCA’s weekly newsletter for members:
a. Compile a weekly calendar of public diplomacy-related events and share it with
members and the public.
b. Provide editing and technical support for the PDCA newsletter.
c. Provide technical facilitation for the PDCA President’s communication with the
organization’s members.
4. Work with the Membership Committee to maintain the membership list on the
PDCA website.
5. Assist in supervision of the Communication Intern in coordination with the
designated supervisor.
6. Event Planning Duties:
a. Work with the PDCA Program Committee to develop program titles, descriptions,
invitations, and branding slides.
b. Take an active role in program implementation including introductions and
moderating.
c. Manage selected events, both online and in hybrid format, using appropriate
software.
d. Draft program descriptions for selected events for promotional purposes.
e. Coordinate with Rising Professional tech hosts to determine runs of show and be
available on stand-by to troubleshoot as needed.
f. Take and archive photos.
g. Manage room reservations and catering for in-person events.
7. Website Maintenance Duties:
Make routine updates to the website as determined by supervisors and the
PDCA Communication Committee.
