In-House Counsel / Landlord Tenant Attorney
Responsibilities :
- Advise on all aspects of landlord-tenant law, including lease agreements, eviction processes, rent collection, and tenant disputes.
- Represent the company in landlord-tenant litigation, including eviction proceedings, breach of lease claims, and disputes regarding rent or security deposits. Appear in Housing Court on a frequent basis.
- Review, draft, and negotiate commercial and residential lease agreements, amendments, and related documents to ensure legal compliance and protect company interests.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws concerning fair housing, rent control, tenant protections, and other real estate regulations.
- Assess and mitigate potential legal risks, offering guidance to property management teams on compliance, dispute resolution, and preventive measures.
- Oversee and resolve conflicts between tenants and the company, often through alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation or negotiation.
- Prepare legal notices, correspondence, and other required documents related to property management and tenant relations.
- Collaborate with and oversee outside counsel on more complex legal matters or litigation, ensuring alignment with company goals and legal strategies.
